I am all for keeping any amenity provided it does not snatch someone's normal life. With all due respects, I don't agree with the logic that this particular case has to go by majority opinion. Fresh air is everyone's fundamental right :) :) :) .... Majority decision cannot snatch it away from minority; Voting / going by majority is only applicable when it doesn't curtail someone's basic needs.
We paid so much of money to get these apartments. Imagine the embarrassment when someone comes to your house and it is stinking. We had to actually go through this!!. Not at all a good thing when word spreads, it is awesome from outside but stinks from inside.
Moreover, it cannot be compared with lifts. Without lifts, things become really really difficult. Nothing compared to the in-convenience of keeping few bins outside for half an hour outside everyday. Not an apple to apple comparison.
If it is working all over the world as someone mentioned, then why it is not working over here? .. I wouldn't mind joining any committee or group formed to help identify issues and fix loopholes one by one.
Let me add few potential reasons which i feel.
- Owners rarely get into chute rooms. They ask their maids to throw the garbage. Maids are/were least bothered and they used to throw it in ducts.
- Much of the garbage would just land on the ramps in every floor (more on lower floors) and stay there for days (How many of you have seen what is inside the ducts?). Things start rotting and stink increases. Some how during rain it just goes very high.
- Garbage has to be removed frequently by the BBMP ??...They are not regular. During rain it is even more irregular
- Improper ventilation i guess at every level. Smell has to find some way out which it is not getting it.
To be completely honest, smell has gone down from before. But it is not completely out. Right now, we can just debate endlessly if we want, but the solution is not in sight at least till some time. Till then we can just think of a road map to fix this issue (if at all we collectively really care).
